A proposal to convert two of the four lanes of St. Mary Boulevard that cross through the University campus into bike lanes is slated for a vote today (Tuesday July 16, 2013) by the Lafayette Consolidated Council. The ordinance would allow UL to transfer money to the Lafayette Consolidated Government in order to pay for the improvements while the Lafayette Consolidated Government does the work needed to accomplish the plan. For more information on the plan and other planned bicycle related infrastructure being pushed by UL please see outline of Bike lanes in UL's Master Plan. We are encouraging everyone who wants to see more and better bicycle facilities in and around Lafayette to show up to the City Council meeting tonight July 16, 2013 at 5:30 at City Hall in a show of support for UL, the bicycle community and the type of growth we a citizens want to see. In order to show your support please fill out a Blue Card in support for agenda item 17, you do not even have to speak if you do not want to, filling out a Blue Card in support will show on public record that we as community want these types of improvements.
Update: For more information about the ordnance its self and what it would do please see this great article by Lanie Cook from the The Vermilion. The article can be found here.
