Ride of Silence THIS Wednesday, May 15, 2013

Just a reminder that THIS Wednesday is the annual Ride of Silence. The Ride of Silence is a worldwide event that aims to:

  1. Show respect for and honor the lives of those who have been killed or injured while cycling on public roadways, and
  2. Raise the awareness of motorists, police and city officials that cyclists have a legal right to share the road.

The  ride will begin at 7 pm from the Mickey Shunick Ghost Bike Memorial at the intersection of St. Landry and Dean Streets to end at Parc Sans Souci on Vermillion Street. The ride will follow a 9.5 mile route through central Lafayette. See http://www.mapmyride.com/routes/view/193939290

Participants are asked to ride no faster than 12 mph, wear helmets, have lights, follow the rules of the road, and remain silent during the ride.

The event is free and open to the public. Please spread the word and come out if you can!
