Extra! Extra! Board Establishes 2014 Priorities

Today, the Bike Lafayette Board met to establish its priorities for 2014, the top 10 of which are as follows:

  1. Increased outreach to children & families - adding a monthly Kidical Mass ride to our existing annual New Year's Noon event at the Children's Museum and the helmet & bike giveaway at the Lafayette Public Library Summer Reading Program events
  2. Increased outreach to recreational cyclists through a weekly Sunday morning Tour du Cafe (a slow paced ride with 10-20 mile route options through the city, including a coffee break and post-ride brunch, will follow soon to be Lafayette Bike Map routes, demonstrating how to bike through Lafayette more safely on low volume roads)
  3. FestiVELO deux (April)
  4. Ride for Rox (same day as FestiVELO, ending at the Festival)
  5. Ride of Silence (May)
  6. Safety campaign via media (ongoing TV, print, radio, internet)
  7. Bronze Bicycle Friendly Community recognition from the League of American Bicyclists (application due in the fall)
  8. Produce a Lafayette Bike Map for Bike Month (April)
  9. Host Winter (Gumbo Ride - Jan) & Summer (Watermelon Ride - July) cycling socials
  10. Continue community outreach through bike valet service (DTA, Gulf Brew, Festival Acadiens, etc.)

If any of this excites you (like it does us!), give us a hand with making it happen. We'll be reaching out for help to those who signed up for a committee of the board at our September Members Meeting.  Or, for more information or to volunteer, you can email us directly at info@bikelafayette.org.
